Employee Spotlight : Cody

Many Inspired LED employees have worked their way up through the ranks, wearing quite a few different hats along the way. Cody is one of those who has held a variety of different positions within our company, and his wide range of experience has helped to make him one of the most valuable, and most knowledgeable members of our team. This week we take a few moments to get to know Cody a bit better, to find out what makes him tick while he’s on on the clock, and off!

Cody, describe your time here at Inspired LED and the roles you have played!

I have been with Inspired LED for almost 4 years now, and have worked many different roles here. I started off in the shipping & receiving department, where my duties included packaging orders for customers, testing LEDs, and assisting with Amazon distribution. After that, I moved into a manufacturing job, which, in addition to my prior responsibilities, involved building custom LED orders. Then, in July of 2015, I joined the Inspired LED Design Team, working with customers who want to light certain projects but who need a little assistance with the plans. On top of all that, I have also long held a role as the in-house IT guy.

What has been your favorite project to work on since joining the Design Team?

I don’t know if I have one particular project that stands out. No matter what project I am working on, it’s always great to see the finished product once the LEDs have been installed. Whether it’s for a kitchen, a sign, a bar, etc., it’s always amazing to see how much of a difference a little lighting can make!

When you aren’t working at Inspired LED, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

There are a lot of hobbies which I juggle around… one of which is juggling.  One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to build and tinker with computers, I have built more computers than I can count, and I plan to build many more. I also have two large dogs, Ryder and Auggie, who take up a lot of my time outside of work.

What is your favorite Inspired LED product and why?

The Independence Dimmer is my favorite product- hands down. This dimmer is pricey but the time it will save you over a hardwired transformer is money well spent. Instead of running cable in the wall for a hardwired setup, you can run this dimmer off of a standard plug-in power supply, and use the included wireless wall dimmer switch to control and dim the lights from up to 100 feet away. The best part is the energy-harvesting wall dimmer switch, because it looks just like a standard wall switch, but it operates without the use of batteries or wires. With each click of the switch it creates enough power to control your lights, saving you the trouble of having to run power to that location and allowing your to mount the switch almost anywhere!

What do you think is the most challenging aspect of working/designing with LEDs?

I think the most challenging part is making sure the customer understands the product and knows how to install the system. Since these systems are fairly new to the market there are still a lot of questions and concerns among customers about how to attach the LEDs to cabinets, how long they last, how bright they are, how can they be controlled etc. So it’s my job to make sure that our customers are happy with their designs and that they know how to install the system, which can be challenging at times.

If you were able to have any super power, what would it be & why?

Definitely teleportation. I hate sitting in traffic.
