Six Myths About LEDs

Six Things You May (Or May Not) Know About LEDs

Myth #1 “LEDs arLightbulb4en’t as efficient as other lights.”
LED’s may be little, but they pack a powerful punch!
The average 40W bulb gives off around 450 lumens, that’s the equivalent of just 1.5 feet of our Ultra Bright flex. And for the equivalent of 40 watts, you could run an entire system of 20 feet of Ultra Bright LEDs. That’s enough to light you’re entire kitchen in exchange for the power of a single incandescent bulb.

Myth #2 “LED lighting has blue undertones.”
This is true and false. LEDs come in a variety of shades and colors. While white LEDs are most popular, there are many shades of white ranging all across the Kelvin Scale from company to company. At Inspired LED we offer three distinct selections to help our customers get the best light for their application. Warm white refers to our 3000K lights, pure white to our 4200K lights, and cool white to our 6000K lights. Read more about which color of LED is right for you by clicking here, or visit our design services page for more information.

LED technologyMyth #3 “Cool white LEDs are naturally brighter than warm white LEDs.”
We do occasionally hear from customers concerned with the idea that cool white LEDs are naturally brighter than warm white LEDs. Again this is true and false. We test each batch of our LEDs for brightness and color, and while there may be slight variances due to manufacturing from time to time, there is often very little difference in measurable light output from color to color. That being said, there are some even here at our facility who feel the cool white or blue-toned LEDs just “feels” brighter. So in the end it may really come down to individual perspective.

Myth #4 “LEDs are unreliable.”
As with any new technology, it’s important to do your research to understand exactly what you’re buying, and who you’re buying from. Most comparable LEDs on the market boast an average lifespan of about 50,000 hours- that’s an equivalent of just over five years of continuous light. Due to the design of our LEDs are systems are to run up to twice this long! That’s up to 100,000 hours, or ten years of continuous light. The truth is, LEDs have an extremely long lifespan. Of course, from time to time we encounter skeptics who have had poor luck in the past with off-the-shelf LED systems from large distributors. They, like all of our customers, are comforted to hear that along with our free design services we offer comprehensive technical support throughout the installation process. We also stand behind our products with a limited lifetime warranty so you can feel secure in your purchase for years to come!

money 2Myth #5 “LEDs are expensive!”
Let’s return to the comparison of a 40W light bulb, which costs about  $2 a piece, puts out about 450 lumens, and lasts an average of 2-3 months. An equivalent 40W LED system can light an entire kitchen with more than 3000 lumens for around $150 total. So yes, to begin with an LED system may seem like a larger investment at first, but over the course of ten years you could spend the same amount of cash replacing a single incandescent bulb over and over! Again, as with any product, it’s important to do your research. We always encourage our customers to look around at competitor’s products and pricing, we’re confident that with our complementary services and free ground shipping, our prices can’t be beat!
